Sushi Ichimura in Tribeca to Close This Summer

Eiji Ichimura is ready for what’s next

Sushi Ichimura, the acclaimed 10-seat omakase restaurant in Tribeca, will close permanently in mid-August 2025.

The intimate dining spot, known for its masterful edo-mae sushi, has been a hot spot since opening in 2023.

The closure was announced by Kuma Hospitality Group, which co-operates Ichimura.

The owners stated they wanted to give guests enough time to visit before Chef Eiji Ichimura’s retirement.

However, Ichimura later denied he was retiring, creating some confusion about his future plans.

Kuma Hospitality later clarified that the chef decided to step away to focus on personal matters…

Ichimura has been a major figure in New York’s sushi scene, previously earning Michelin stars.

His meticulous approach to aging fish and traditional techniques set his work apart in the omakase world.

Following the closure, Kuma Hospitality plans to open a new concept in the same space.

For those wanting to experience Ichimura’s legendary sushi one last time, now is the moment to book a seat.

NYC Restaurants Brace for Massive Tariffs on European Wine

238 Mott St, New York, NY 10012

President Trump has threatened a 200% duty on EU alcohol in response to the European Union’s plan to impose a 50% tax on American whiskey starting in April.

For many restaurants, wine sales are a crucial revenue stream, and such a steep tariff could have devastating consequences.

Mehdi Mokrani, owner of Boni & Mott in Nolita, said that wine accounts for about half of his business and warned that these tariffs could put restaurants in jeopardy.

Chef Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin expected a tariff in the range of 20% to 25%, similar to past trade disputes, but said that a 200% tax would be an extreme burden.

Restaurants are already struggling with inflation and shifting consumer habits, and this new trade battle could make things worse.

If the tariffs go into effect, restaurants may be forced to hike prices or remove many European wines from their menus altogether.

Industry leaders are hoping for a resolution before the proposed duties become reality.
